The organisation is the starting point

Businesses often describe a software problem as a missing feature. A closer look can reveal a workflow problem: information is entered twice, ownership is unclear or a decision waits for someone to reconcile records manually. Adding another tool may reproduce the same friction.

Begin by following the work. What triggers it? Who needs to act? Which information do they need? How do they know the task is complete? These questions help a team define a useful system without assuming the answer is a larger application.

Connect the information that matters

ERP, CRM, accounting and people systems can serve distinct needs while sharing parts of the same operating picture. The design challenge is deciding where a record belongs, who can change it and how other systems should receive that change.

A useful integration brief names the business owner and the source of truth for each important record. It also describes exceptions. When two systems disagree, the organisation needs a practical resolution process, rather than another spreadsheet that becomes an unofficial system of record.

Design for adoption

A technically complete platform creates little value if the team cannot use it confidently. Involve the people who do the work in discovery, prototype review and testing. Pay attention to language, navigation and the small repeated actions that occupy the working day.

Rollout is a product activity. Explain what changes, provide a way to get help and identify who owns ongoing improvement. A phased launch can help a team learn which parts of the workflow need adjustment before a wider transition.

Measure operational change

Choose outcomes that describe the work: fewer duplicated records, shorter handoffs, clearer reporting or improved completion of a recurring process. Establish a starting point before claiming improvement. Software activity alone does not establish business impact.

Enterprise technology works best when product decisions and operating decisions meet. The objective is a system that helps people understand what to do, gives them the information they need and connects their work with the rest of the organisation.
